Madness broke out at the Coliseum! Chronicle of Getafe 2-0 Real Betis
Clash of titans at the Coliseum. Getafe had planned an intense home match, aiming to press and capitalize on set pieces. Meanwhile, Betis tried to dominate possession and create danger through their combination play. A clash of styles was expected: Getafes solidity and pressure versus Betiss possession and offensive quality, where the small details could have made the difference.
FIRST HALF
Before the match started, the Coliseum applauded Domingos Duarte, who reached 100 matches with the blue team.
In the opening minutes, the game had to be stopped due to disturbances in the Getafe stand. The referee went to the fourth officials area to inform him, together with the police, that an announcement had to be made over the loudspeaker warning that if the incidents did not stop, the match could not resume. Finally, in the 11th minute, the referee received the green light and the match resumed.
By the midpoint of the first half, the match showed a clear script. On one side, a very well-organized Getafe at the back, clearing any ball and looking to counterattack. On the other, a Betis with possession but not creating much danger. However, in the 28th minute that plan broke when Getafe took the lead. After a great save by Álvaro Vallés from a shot by Domingos Duarte, the rebound fell to Kiko Femenías feet, who unleashed a powerful shot that went in after hitting the crossbar twice, putting the azulones ahead 1-0.
In the 35th minute, Pellegrinis side almost equalized with a great free kick from Cucho, but David Soria responded with a saving hand to prevent the goal.
However, just before halftime, in the 46th minute, Getafe extended their advantage. After a great pass from Abqar from his own half, Satriano got behind Betiss defense and, taking advantage of a poor clearance by Vallés, touched the ball over the keeper to score the 2-0.
With those two goals, Bordalás team went into halftime with the lead.
SECOND HALF
In the early minutes of the second half, the azulones went on the attack again and, on their first chance, forced Vallés to intervene, who just tipped a slight shot from Luis Vázquez with his fingers. However, the play was ruled offside and the danger vanished.
In the 54th minute, Betis also had their chance. After a great cross from Junior Firpo from the left, Cucho headed, but David Soria made a providential stretch and caught the ball securely.
As the minutes passed, Getafe stuck to the same approach as in the first half, a solid defensive block and seeking the wings to send crosses into the area. Betis, meanwhile, continued trying to find the goal, reaching the rival area, but without creating too much threat on Sorias goal.
In the dying moments of the match, Betis pressed hard to reduce the deficit and Bakambu had a clear chance to do so, but once again David Soria appeared to save his team and keep a clean sheet.
Finally, Getafe secured the three points and with this reached 35 points in the standings.
