Real Betis will take the case of Cédric Bakambu to its internal regulations after the forward returned to Seville four days later than planned. Ángel Haro expressed his displeasure over the handling of the episode and the player's absence in two key matches.

The verdiblanco president was firm in confirming that the club will apply its Disciplinary Code to the footballer. “I haven’t been able to speak, I know there has been some communication via WhatsApp, but I don’t like the situation at all from the standpoint of the Congo Federation nor from the player,” he stated, before emphasizing that teams cooperate with federations, but “there has to be more seriousness.”

Bakambu landed in Seville last night, four days later than expected. The Congolese international took part in the playoff in which the Democratic Republic of Congo secured last week in Mexico the passport to compete in next summer’s World Cup, but did not return after the match. Along with the rest of the internationals, he traveled to his country to celebrate the qualification, reaching the final phase of a World Cup 52 years after their previous appearance.

The situation led Espanyol, Elche, and Betis itself to file a complaint with LaLiga so that it would be forwarded to the Royal Spanish Football Federation and, from there, to FIFA, with the intention of preventing the scenario from recurring. Furthermore, the verdiblanco club is considering legal actions to claim damages for the delay, as the forward missed the Saturday league match against Espanyol and will also not be in Braga tomorrow in the Europa League, having been excluded from the squad.

Haro explained that the Congolese federation sent an email informing that they were holding the player from the 3rd to the 5th, a decision the club opposed. “The legal team will see what claims we can make. Regarding the player, we have a Disciplinary Code that the footballers sign and that will also have to be applied,” he added.

The president also explained that the disciplinary punishment will not negatively affect the team and recalled that “just as there are rights, there are obligations,” stressing: “Going beyond the FIFA date does not please me at all.” Bakambu is living his final months as a Betis player since his contract ends on June 30 and he will not renew. But this situation, without a doubt, could jeopardize his participation with the team in the remainder of the League and Europa League.
