Superpica arrives on Biwenger: Managers can now choose the MVP or is it a strategy for scoring?

The Fantasy Biwenger by AS changes this season with a new feature that gives more weight to the managers themselves. It is no longer just what the match reporter decides that matters: users will also be able to choose the player they liked the most in each match of LaLiga EA Sports.

The prize is called Superpica and it can make a big difference to points totals. The player who receives the most votes will get three extra points, which will be added to the points earned for their performance in the game. A reward that can change the outcome of a matchday and, along the way, spark plenty of debate in the leagues.

The voting is enabled during the last minutes of each match in AS live broadcasts. After that, it will remain available in the match report for one hour after the final whistle. Managers therefore have the chance to take part directly in the MVP selection. 

A footballer can put in a great performance, win over the fans and take those three additional points thanks to the community vote. What is more, the feature is configurable by the administrators of each league that uses Diario AS's scoring system.

The first matchday has already rolled out Superpica. AS has been publishing the votes from the various fixtures to find out which players readers have picked as the best in each match. Among the clashes included were Alavés-Getafe, Sevilla-Rayo, Racing-Villarreal, Espanyol-Levante, Deportivo-Elche and Atlético-Málaga.

For Biwenger managers, the conclusion is straightforward: now you will also have to keep an eye on the polls. Because a strong performance can end up being worth three more points. And in Fantasy, three points can make a big difference.

The main fear among fans is pretty clear: that Superpica turns into a strategic vote rather than a real choice of the best player in the match.

The criticism that comes up most often is that many managers could vote for the player they have in their squad to get three extra points, regardless of how they perform. Another variant also appears: voting with the idea of harming rivals in your own league.

Alongside that rejection, there are users who see the novelty as an interesting incentive, although they ask to expand the system to other scoring formats, such as leagues that use only SofaScore. There are also plenty of practical doubts about where the option is enabled, who takes part in the vote and which scoring systems are compatible.

So the overall opinion is split, but skepticism carries a lot of weight in the comments. Superpica is liked as an idea for adding excitement, but many fans doubt that the public vote is truly objective.
