The scenario is not new, but the calendar is starting to tighten. The midfielder's contract ends on 30 June 2027, he has not renewed and talks with Levante have been stalled for months. Inside the Granota club, he is no longer seen as an untouchable piece, while the player also does not feel the same backing he had after promotion to LaLiga.

The Sevilla appear as the main suitor. In Nervión, they do not have any financial room right now to make a strong offer, although they do hold 30% of his rights and would only need to negotiate for the remaining 70%. The possible departure of Ruben Vargas to Olympiacos, for a sum between 12 and 15 million, and the prospect of receiving major offers for Lucien Agoumé could change the picture in the final days of the window.

The fact that has reignited the speculation was Carlos Álvarez's lack of minutes against Osasuna. Neither the issue with the registrations opened the door to the starting XI, nor did Luís Castro turn to him during the match. Asked about it, the Portuguese coach defended a tactical explanation: «Everyone can leave. Carlos has not had minutes because today I decided it that way. We needed other things, which are not the ones Carlos gives us. Carlos gives us some things and others give us other things. For today's game we needed things that were a bit different. But there is no standout player to leave».

The contractual situation weighs heavily. From the 1 January, the player will be able to negotiate a pre-contract freely with another club to leave for free at the end of the season. In a club with financial needs, the chance to bring in money now, even if it is lower than his market value, gains strength over the risk of losing him without compensation.

Castro also made it clear that the market affects the whole squad: «All the Levante players, and I too, can leave. If tomorrow they give twenty million to the club for me, I go. It's the best thing for the club, because they will find a good one and they will help the club with the money. It's not a one-or-the-other situation. The market is open to everyone. You know there are clubs that can buy what they want and there are clubs that have to sell. If there are good offers, I think one or the other can go. If there are offers that are not good for the club, then it doesn't happen. It's normal».

From Sánchez-Pizjuán, they are aware of the player's desire to return to the club where he was formed. They also know they could wait until next summer to sign him without paying a transfer fee, although an affordable deal would allow them to move sooner. Carlos Álvarez, according to his circle, would prefer to leave some money at the Ciutat de València as a recognition of the club that gave him room to grow in professional football.

The window closes at midnight on Tuesday 1 September and Levante is facing a few days of maximum tension. Carlos Álvarez could leave for Sevilla or another club that makes an offer, but if no agreement is reached he will stay at Orriols to serve his final year of his contract, and it will be Luís Castro who determines his role in the team.
