Giráldez talks about the future of Javi Rueda

The future of Javi Rueda was one of the main topics at Claudio Giráldez's press conference. The Celta coach did not hide his position on the possibility that the full-back could leave the club during the final days of the transfer window.

«I don't have the final say, but if that decision were to be made, obviously it's a decision that I don't agree with», the Celeste coach explained.

Giráldez was even more forceful when asked about the figures being discussed for a possible transfer: «In the numbers that are being talked about more or less, it seems like a bad sale. That's why I trust that it won't happen».

Despite all the transfer rumors, Javi Rueda has been included in the squad for the postponed match that Celta will play against Osasuna at Balaídos.

For Giráldez, the decision is completely logical as long as the player remains part of the squad. «He's an important player for us. We want him here and I trust that he will be here, that we won't sell him», he said.

The coach also believes he will be able to count on the full-back once the market is definitively closed: «That's why he comes into the squad and is one more for the match. I hope the window ends with him here».

How is Javi Rueda doing amid all the rumors?

Giráldez also ruled out that talks about his future are affecting the player in particular. The coach believes that Rueda remains committed to Celta and is ready to compete.

«It's not a straightforward situation. He wants to be here, or I think he wants to be here. That's the impression he gives me», he explained.

Precisely because of the player's willingness and the coaching staff's intention to keep counting on him, Giráldez believes that including him in the squad was the most natural option: «He wants to be here and we want him to be. There wasn't any other more coherent decision than to put him in the squad».

The importance of keeping the core and looking after the youngsters

Beyond Rueda's specific case, Giráldez took the opportunity to defend the importance of maintaining a balanced squad and protecting the growth of young players and the academy.

The coach recalled that Celta cannot always compete financially with other clubs, but he believes there are other arguments to ensure that their key players stay in Vigo.

«To evolve and take one more step as a team, we have to be able to take care of our academy or young players in the best way possible», he said.

Giráldez also highlighted those players who have chosen to prioritize staying in the Celeste project despite receiving offers that are higher financially. «We have a dressing room that many times gives up on those things in order to be here. It's a very strong endorsement that we have to make the most of to keep growing», he added.

His relationship with Marián Mouriño and the sporting directorate

The coach was also asked about the words of Marián Mouriño, who had said that the club would not sell players considered indispensable by the coach.

Giráldez avoided fueling any possible internal disagreement and stressed that there is good communication between the bench, the presidency and the sporting directorate.

«I think we always understand each other. In the end, we understand each other: the sporting directorate, the president and me, and I trust it will be the same way», he said.

The coach recalled that during the window there have already been deals in which the different parties could initially have different points of view, but in the end a consensus was reached.

«There have been moves in which we were more or less in agreement and we reached a point of understanding. I understand that the same thing will happen here and I trust that it will be so», he concluded.
