The room for manoeuvre is starting to narrow. The transfer window deadline is set for Tuesday, 1 September at 23:59, and talks between the clubs have not, so far, produced any relevant progress. In Vigo, they understand that Valencia's asking price is above what they are willing to take on, while in Mestalla they do not plan to lower what they already had agreed with Swansea.

The Valencia side remains firm in its position: to match or, at the very least, equal the 3.5 million euros that they had agreed with the Welsh club weeks earlier. That deal was stalled by André Almeida himself, who preferred to continue his career in Spain. Celta, meanwhile, is trying to reduce that amount significantly.

The Galician club made space in its squad by severing ties with Uruguayan Matías Vecino, but for the moment that move has not helped bring the parties closer. In Valencia, moreover, there is pressure to raise liquidity with a week left in the window, with reinforcements still pending in the attacking area and the name Largie Ramazani on the table, although Leeds is still set on selling him.

With no straightforward exit for Dani Raba and no convincing offers for Danjuma, Almeida now appears to be the player who could generate the most income to help reshape the attack. That scenario, though, depends on Celta increasing its proposal.

Celta weighs up alternatives within its own reserve team

According to Faro de Vigo, Celta is not ruling out covering the holding midfield position with players from the academy in light of the cost it attributes to the Almeida deal. Burcio and Antañón, standouts at Celta Fortuna, are two names that have gained prominence along that route. The departure of Hugo Sotelo to Levante UD a month ago already fit into that Celta plan to make room for its youngsters.

Within that market strategy, Celta is trying to convey that its urgency is not as high. Stefan Bajcetic, a Liverpool midfielder trained at A Madroa, is close to returning to Vigo, although after several months out with injuries his arrival would, in principle, be to strengthen the reserve team.

Celta's interest in André Almeida remains alive and further attempts are expected. The club and the player have an agreed contractual understanding, and both Carlos Corberán and Claudio Giráldez agree that the existing differences should be narrowed over the coming days.
