Gonzalo Petit is close to becoming a new player for Cadiz on loan. The 19-year-old Uruguayan would thus begin a new chapter in Spain after his experiences at Mirandés and Granada.

No room due to the non-EU player slots

The main reason for his departure is that Betis have filled all their non-EU player slots, meaning Petit currently has no place in the first team. Another loan move within Spain could be a good solution for all parties. The forward will continue to rack up minutes and, in addition, staying in the country would allow him to advance the paperwork to obtain Spanish nationality next summer, freeing up a non-EU slot.

Lyon and Midtjylland do not convince Betis

The Olympique de Lyon and the FC Midtjylland have shown interest in Petit with a view to a transfer, but the offers have not met Betis's demands. The Verdiblanco side spent around 4.5 million euros on his signing from Nacional de Montevideo, so they want to recover that amount and, if possible, make a profit... which has not ended up materializing.

A loan with an eye to the future

Cadiz's option could end up being beneficial for Betis. Petit, still 19 years old and under contract until 2031, will have another chance to build continuity and show his progress in Spanish football.

Moreover, a good season could lead to a significant revaluation of the forward, something especially appealing for a Betis that made a considerable investment in him. If Petit takes a step forward, secures Spanish nationality, and proves he is ready to compete at the highest level, he could return to Heliópolis next summer to try to earn a place in the squad.

Therefore, rather than a permanent exit, Betis could be facing a new stage of development for a future bet that still has plenty of room to grow.
