Atletico focused on the future of Julián Álvarez and other deals

Atlético de Madrid heads into the closing stretch of the window with several matters still to be resolved. In training on Tuesday, September 1, Julián Álvarez returned to work out with the rest of the group, while the sporting department keeps different fronts open within the squad.

The scene left a striking image. Mateu Alemany watched the morning session with a calm expression despite the fact that the deadline to complete deals is set for 23:59 tonight. That said, the red-and-white director of football did not stop paying attention to his mobile phone in case any news came through.

Jonathan David, the priority option for the attack

The arrivals chapter concentrates much of the expectation. Jonathan David is emerging as the main candidate to strengthen the forward line of the team coached by Diego Pablo Simeone. The Canadian striker from Juventus would bring a different profile from the forwards currently at the Argentine coach's disposal.

The operation is being considered while Alexander Sorloth remains injured and Julián Álvarez is pointing to staying at the club, although more resigned than satisfied. In addition, Simeone has players such as Kang-In Lee and Álex Baena to carry out roles as an attacking midfielder or second striker.

There are also alternatives being studied in defense. The signing of Jorge Salinas seemed to have been reactivated over the last few hours, especially after the moves made by Racing de Santander to cover that position.

However, Atlético is already considering other possibilities, including Hugo Bueno, a full-back at Wolverhampton, who could leave the English club after their relegation from the Premier League last season. The names of Nico González and Matías Soulé have also been discussed, players at Juventus and AS Roma respectively, although neither of the two options quite fits into the plans of the red-and-white board.

Departures are the main pending problem

Alemany's biggest workload is in the departures section. The club has on the table the termination of José María Giménez with the aim of creating room under the wage limit, although the sporting department has little room for maneuver if offers do not arrive.

A similar situation is being sought for Thomas Lemar, who returned from his loan spell at Girona FC. However, the French midfielder could also remain in the squad and complete his final year of contract as a red-and-white player.

Meanwhile, Atlético is working to find a loan move for Obed Vargas and Carlos Martín for this season.
