Málaga sign Juan Berrocal after his exit from Getafe

Juan Berrocal has already completed the formalities to become a new player for Málaga CF. The defender signed his contract at La Rosaleda this Tuesday after passing his medical examination, in a process that was followed by the club's sporting director, Loren Juarros.

With this addition, the blanquiazul side make their seventh signing of the transfer window and strengthen the heart of the defence with a player who has built up a wealth of experience in Segunda División, has played in Primera, and has also had a recent spell in American football.

A career forged in Sevilla's youth system

Born in Jerez de la Frontera in 1999, Berrocal was trained in the lower ranks of Sevilla FC. A serious, forceful and decisive centre-back, he went on to become an international with Spain's Under-19 side and made his debut for Sevilla's first team at 19, at the start of the 2018/19 season.

His first professional experience was linked to Sevilla Atlético. Between 2017 and 2020, he played 30 matches in Segunda División, after breaking into the second tier at 18 during the 2017/18 campaign.

After finishing his time with the Sevilla B team, the defender continued his progress through a series of loan spells. In the 2020/21 season, he played for CD Mirandés and, a year later, he defended the colours of Real Sporting de Gijón. In both destinations, he won prominence and established himself in a Segunda División that has shaped much of his career.

Stints at Eibar, Getafe and the United States

The next chapter came in the 2022/23 season, when he joined the SD Eibar. At the Basque club, he took another step forward and ended up settling in the second tier. Over five seasons, Berrocal adds 163 appearances in LALIGA HYPERMOTION.

That performance earned him a move to the top flight. The Getafe CF signed the centre-back for the 2024/25 season, during which he played 19 matches in Primera División under José Bordalás.

In the 2025/26 campaign, the Madrid club decided to loan him out to Atlanta United FC in the United States' Major League Soccer. Once his spell with the blue outfit ended, the player now begins a new stage with Málaga CF.

The Jerez-born centre-back thus joins the seventh reinforcement for the blanquiazul side in the current transfer window, with experience built up in Segunda, Primera and American football.
