Last-minute bombshell: Hull City moves for Roberto Fernández

The latest hours of the window threaten to be especially hectic at the RCD Espanyol. According to ESPN journalist Gonzalo Zárate, Hull City are very close to Roberto Fernández and the blanquiazul club would remain on standby for the English side to make the final move with their release clause.

Hull's interest is nothing new. The English club has been showing up for several days as one of the teams most interested in Roberto, alongside Serie A sides such as Fiorentina and Como. The forward has a 25 million euro release clause, a figure that keeps Espanyol on alert in this final stretch of the market. 

The situation is especially delicate for the Catalan club because Espanyol only hold 62.5% of the player's economic rights. In addition, Roberto has started the season at a spectacular level, with three goals in the first three matchdays of LaLiga, becoming one of the team's main attacking references. 

ESPN's information adds another important detail: the Espanyol already has a forward agreed as a possible replacement for Roberto in case his departure ultimately happens. For now, the identity of that player has not been publicly disclosed.
