Thomas Lemar leaves Atletico and joins Elche at the close of the transfer window

The Elche have completed the signing of Thomas Lemar in the closing hours of the transfer window. The French midfielder brings an end to his time at the Atletico de Madrid after both clubs reached an agreement to resolve his departure.

The player, aged 30, returns to LaLiga with the intention of once again playing a key role. After returning this summer from his loan spell at Girona, Lemar was looking for a destination that would help him find his rhythm and feel important again.

The player was not in Diego Pablo Simeone's plans and his future had moved away from the Metropolitano. Ultimately, Atletico and the player found a way to unlock the deal, while Elche added an experienced and talented midfielder to their squad.

A new opportunity for Lemar at Elche

Lemar took part in Atletico's pre-season, although he did not feature in the first three league matchday squads and he also did not train this Tuesday with the group. That situation ended up speeding up a departure that has been confirmed in the final stretch of the market.

The team coached by Martín Anselmi brings in a player who can offer experience, quality between the lines, and the resources to create football in the final third. Among his main strengths are his final pass and his left-footed strike.
