Gerenabarrena wins his appeal and Athletic fail to overturn Yuri's yellow card

In Gerenabarrena's case, the governing body sided with the rojiblancos and decided to withdraw the booking. Sports Disciplinary Committee considers that the match footage shows that the midfielder did not manage to bring down the opposing player, as had been reflected in the report drawn up by Mateo Busquets Ferrer. For this reason, a clear material error is identified and the card is annulled.

The decision means that the yellow card will not count in Gerenabarrena's disciplinary record, allowing him to face the next fixtures without accumulating this booking received on the third matchday of the league.

However, the appeal filed by Yuri Berchiche has had a completely different outcome. The Committee rejected Athletic's arguments, understanding that the images provided do not make it possible to clearly prove that there was a refereeing error in the incident for which he was booked.

According to Sports Disciplinary Committee, the sequence is consistent with the description made by Busquets Ferrer in the report, so Yuri's yellow card remains and will continue to count in his record.

In this way, Athletic manage to have one of the two appealed bookings withdrawn, while the other will remain in force. Gerenabarrena is cleared of the card he received against Celta, but Yuri Berchiche will have to keep his at the start of the campaign.
