The rojiblanco captain remains conditioned by the heavy knock he suffered against Elche, and his presence at the Ciutat de Valencia is still up in the air. There is no official medical report, although this Monday he did not show up on the Lezama pitch.

The Monday session left Iñaki Williams out of the group picture two days before the next fixture for Athletic. The starters carried out recovery work inside the facilities, with the exception of Jesús Areso, who completed a solo continuous run, meaning the captain's absence also does not rule him out for Wednesday's game.

The forward finished the draw against Elche at San Mamés injured. He was replaced in the 81st minute and left the pitch with a visible limp after taking a heavy knock. Edin Terzic then played down the concern by describing the issue as “a knock” and explaining that the player felt more comfortable after receiving treatment.

With that scenario and no official diagnosis indicating a more serious injury, Athletic are pushing their options to have Iñaki Williams available against Levante, in the match scheduled for Wednesday at 21:30 at the Ciutat de Valencia.

The situation takes on added importance due to the problems Terzic has been accumulating in the attacking area. Gorka Guruzeta suffered five days ago a moderate muscle injury, while Williams has spent this season moving from his usual role on the right wing to acting as a reference point in the center of the attack.

The German coach also does not usually take risks with players who arrive with knocks. The schedule, meanwhile, packs three matches into nine days: after the draw against Elche and the trip to Levante, the rojiblancos will host Alavés on Saturday in the seventh round of LaLiga EA Sports, the last game before the first international break.

Guruzeta, Canales and Vivian continue their recoveries

The Lezama session also brought updates on other injured players. Terzic had said before the Elche match that he expected to have Guruzeta and Peio Canales back for training with their teammates at the start of this week, but neither has yet returned to normal.

Guruzeta did not go out onto the pitch during the 15 minutes open to the media. Canales, by contrast, worked on pitch 1 alongside Dani Vivian, who still has not made his debut this season due to adductor trouble. Both carried out ball exercises accompanied by the rehabilitation staff.

So, Iñaki Williams's presence at the Ciutat de Valencia is still not ruled out, while Guruzeta, Vivian and Canales are set to continue their respective recovery processes in Bilbao with the derby against Alavés on Saturday in mind.
