Deportivo return to the EA Sports league after eight years away. The Galician side showed their credentials from the start and, despite a few setbacks along the way, in Valladolid they sealed their direct promotion with a double from the unexpected star of the climb, Bil Nsongo “Kill Bill”. A success built on a fanbase that, far from abandoning the team, has rallied even more in the years of mud, in the magic of their academy products, and in a deep squad that perfectly blends the boldness of the youth and the experience of the veterans.

Real Club Deportivo de la Coruña

The Depor return to their natural place with the aim of establishing themselves in LaLiga and with a three-year plan to get back to the top ten of the league. Backed by the academy (25% of the squad should be made up of homegrown players) and by players who can deliver immediate impact, but still have room to grow.

This promotion cannot be understood without the quality of their second line, the step forward from the young players, the grit and commitment of their full-backs, and the contribution of the bench. Without forgetting turning points such as the winter transfer window, the recovery of Ximo Navarro, the emergence of Noe and, especially, Bil Nsongo.

Despite his lack of height, the Joker is a natural winner of duels who combines intelligence with and without the ball. Faced with the team’s problems in building from the back, he reinvented himself as an eight and the team flowed thanks to his quality and game vision, but above all by enabling clean transitions. He steals, he assists, he gets forward, and with his youth, his ceiling is still to come.

It wasn’t an easy season for the Canary Islander. A pubalgia that dragged on for almost the entire campaign cut his output. What would be decisive for others is just a bump for Yere. Despite his physical issues, he finished the season with enviable numbers, reaching double digits for both goals and assists. He should be the flagship of the project in LaLiga.

With a setup characterized by playing with five at the back, the full-backs became the go-to weapon for creating overloads: with Quagliata, all commitment and grit from the left, plus the arrival of Adri Altimira in the winter window for the right side, the wide areas were the route to breaking down tight matches. With the return of Ximo Navarro, that strategy became even more pronounced.

The arrival of Álvaro Ferllo and Adri Altimira in the winter window, along with their immediate impact, cancelled out two of the team’s shortcomings. You can’t explain this success without the match-saving stops by Álvaro and the right-sided dagger Altimira.

Lucas Noubi settled into the defense after a shaky start. The Belgian, who has enviable physical and technical qualities, showed that he can be the leader of Depor’s defense of the future. Once he moves past his overconfidence and occasional mistakes, the young defender will have plenty to say.

Bil Nsongo made the jump to the first team and stood out as a forward reference, showing a great ability to apply pressure, control long passes, and protect the ball using his body.

Luismi Cruz left the wing and transitioned to the center, giving the team more control and directness.

The only blot came with Mella’s injury, both present and future for the team and unstoppable in space.

Hidalgo is a very hands-on coach who keeps the less regulars switched on. He stands out Zakaria Eddahchouri (12 goals), starting almost always from the bench, but we can’t forget the key goals by Stoichkov, Mulattieri and the academy product Noe, among others.

Deportivo players in fantasy terms:

Key points

Yeremay: Star and attacking reference, guarantees goals and assists (penalty taker).

Mario Soriano: Game controller, box-to-box, contributing in every facet of play.

Adri Altimira: This should be the year he fully settles in LaLiga. He contributes in both defense and attack.

Bil Nsongo: He’ll be signed competition, but he barely noticed the step up from Segunda Federación to Segunda División. A forward who will score well, even without finding the net, thanks to his constant work and his influence on the game. Low entry price.

Recommended

Lucas Noubi: He’s not in the key picks due to his concentration problems; a wall up and down.

Mella: He’ll return to the left after a few years playing on the other foot, which means direct competition with Yeremay, but he always finds his place, whether left, right, full-back…

Loureiro: A veteran hardened by a thousand battles. Lack of experience in LaLiga is his handicap.

Luismi Cruz: His impact in the attacking midfield is crucial. He brings dribbling, the final pass and goals.

Bets

Quagliata: The almost certain return of Angeliño to his home could close the door for him.

Noe Carrillo: He’ll get a first-team contract and nobody has his characteristics. He could be the season’s revelation for a tiny price.

Zakaria: If he’s not finally sold to raise funds, he’ll return to his role as an impact substitute, and he always has the goal at his mercy.

Ximo Navarro: Pending contract renewal.

Not recommended

Villares, Riki, Gijserhart: Many doubts in midfield and possible rotations.

Barcia and Arnau Comas: Arnau won’t stay and Barcia probably won’t either; if he does, he’ll be signed competition.

Jurado, Patiño and Puerto: They will leave the team.

In short, a team with plenty of potential and youth. Staying up is the goal, but Depor always aims for the very top.
