The Spanish midfielder would have given the go-ahead upon his arrival at the Santiago Bernabeu, and the contractual conditions are well advanced. However, Real Madrid has still not started talks with Manchester City.

Real Madrid C.F.

The possible signing of Rodri Hernández by Real Madrid has taken a major turn following the 2026 World Cup. The Spanish midfielder would be willing to return to Spain to wear white, while Florentino Pérez would have softened his stance on a deal that, just a few days ago, was raising doubts among the Madrid hierarchy.

As transfer-market specialist journalist Matteo Moretto has reported, Real Madrid already has the player’s approval. In addition, from a contractual standpoint, the white club and the player’s camp would be very close to reaching an agreement.

Florentino Pérez opens the door to signing Rodri

Rodri’s big performance at the World Cup would have finally convinced several members of Real Madrid’s board. Moretto says Florentino Pérez is now much more open to studying his arrival, after having held certain reservations about the player’s age, his recent injury record, and the total cost of the deal.

So the agreement with the player would be the most advanced part. Rodri would have conveyed his willingness to play at the Santiago Bernabeu, and the terms of his possible contract would be practically defined.

However, that does not mean the signing is done. At the moment, there are no formal negotiations between Real Madrid and Manchester City, the owner of his rights.

Manchester City wants to renew Rodri

Rodri has a contract that runs out with Manchester City in June 2027, a situation that forces the English club to make a decision during this transfer window. If they fail to renew him, he could leave next summer as a free agent.

From England, they maintain that City considers his continuity a priority and is willing to make a financial effort to place him among the highest-paid players in the squad. The Spanish international has not yet accepted the renewal proposal.

Reports published in the last few hours also reflect that within Real Madrid there was initially no unanimity about signing him. However, his performances with the Spanish national team and his desire to return to LaLiga would have changed the picture.

Real Madrid has Rodri’s approval, but it still has to tackle the most complicated part: reaching an economic agreement with Manchester City. For now, the operation remains in the rumor stage, with no official offer between the clubs.
