Sevilla's sporting directorate faces the final hours of the summer window with several files open. The club needs to strengthen specific positions, but it was also waiting on a major exit to create room for maneuver in a plan shaped by the financial balance required in LALIGA EA SPORTS.

The move of Rubén Vargas to Greece has become notably more complicated. As journalist Ismael Medina reported, talks between Sevilla FC and Olympiacos have stalled after neither side managed to narrow the gap in the figures for the transfer.

The Nervion club sticks with its valuation of 15 million euros, while the Greek side does not go beyond 12 million. With the market about to close, that gap has left the operation practically on hold and has strengthened the possibility that the Swiss forward remains in the squad.

Three fronts open in the planning

Blocking this sale does not change, at least initially, the needs set by the technical secretariat. Sevilla continues to work on the arrival of a center forward, a physical-type holding midfielder, and a specific player for the left flank following Oso's departure.

The possible continuation of Vargas also opens up an internal debate. His quality is not in question, but his physical issues and the level he showed in the final stretch of the previous season raised doubts among part of the Sevilla fanbase, especially due to the feeling that his focus was on arriving in good condition for the 2026 World Cup.

With Luis García Plaza in charge of the team, the Swiss international's stay would only change the sporting picture if the player regains consistency and shows a total commitment within the group. At this stage of the window, Sevilla is caught between the need to close signings and the obligation to manage an exit that no longer seems straightforward.
