The first Madrid derby of the season arrives, with both teams in good form and winning their midweek match.

For Atletico, it will be a kind of test to find out where they stand at this stage of the season, measuring themselves against the team that is expected to be, given the spending on signings, the favorite to break Barcelona's hegemony in this competition.

The arrival of Cuti has given Atletico an important pillar in defense and it shows; we'll see if, against Madrid's pharaonic attack, they can hold their own.

After the match against Osasuna, and with the rest Simeone gave, it seems that some players will be in the starting XI, such as Hjulmand, Pubill, Hancko, Giuliano...

That said, there are still plenty of doubts: we still need to know whether Julián Álvarez will be fit for this Sunday and whether he will start the match. This time, we'll even have to wait until Sunday itself to clear up many questions.

Confirmed absences as of today are Barrios and Sorloth.

Real Madrid will arrive at the derby after stringing together three straight wins against Inter, Rayo Vallecano and Elche, the last one 2-3 at the Martínez Valero, where Carlos Espí once again became the star by scoring the winning goal in the final minutes. The clash against Atletico will be a demanding test to measure the true level of the white side against an opponent of much greater stature. In addition, the Madrid fans will have very much in mind what happened last season in this very setting, when the Atletico de Madrid beat them 5-2 at the Metropolitano.

Mourinho has taken advantage of this stretch to rotate quite a lot and manage a deep squad, with the aim of making sure everyone feels important.  Regarding the squad's condition, note that Valverde overcame the niggles that had led to his substitution against Rayo, and Tchouaméni was already a starter before Elche, which reflects the big weight the French midfielder will have in the team's play. The absences the team is dealing with are Militão, Mendy and Rodrygo.

As for the starting XI, the expected lineup is the strongest one, with a single doubt: who will be the player to partner Huijsen in the center of the back line. Konaté is the favorite, but Rudiger also has plenty of options. The XI would be made up of Courtois, Cucurella, Huijsen, Konate / Rudiger, Dumfries, Tchoameni, Valverde, Arda Guler, Vinicius, Bellingham and Mbappé.
